Public affairs refers to the strategic involvement of companies and organizations in the public and nonprofit sectors and society in order to achieve their business objectives. We strategically manage relationships with diverse stakeholders, including governments, local governments, NGOs/NPOs, industry associations, local communities, media, and citizens, to help clients achieve their missions.
At Makaira, our specialized consultants support clients in a wide range of areas, from planning to executing non-market strategies (legal reform, government collaboration, gaining social support, etc.).
Specific Duties
▼Public Affairs (PA) Consulting
You will be consulted on the latest social issues and technologies by a wide range of startups, foreign tech companies, large domestic companies, NPOs, foundations, and others. You will be responsible for the following tasks:
- Analyzing the client's external environment and relevant policy trends
- Considering and formulating solutions to policy issues that are beneficial to both society and the client
- Formulating approach and action plans to realize the policy
- Building relationships, negotiating, and discussing with relevant stakeholders, including politicians, government officials, industry, and academia
(including both national and local government levels)
- Planning and running symposiums and study sessions to raise public awareness and raise public opinion
- Proposing projects to potential client companies and negotiating contracts
- Project management and team member management
- Other projects and tasks you may be interested in working on at our company are available upon request

Public affairs refers to "strategic engagement activities in the public and non-profit sectors and society undertaken by companies and organizations to achieve their business objectives," as well as "the planning and execution of non-market strategies."
At Makaira, our diverse professionals support a wide range of public affairs activities, from non-market strategy consulting to policy research and policy recommendations, lobbying, inter-sector collaboration coordination, symposium and event planning, media relations, business development, brand development, campaign planning, and various creative productions.
Monday through Friday: Flextime system with 8 hours of work, 1 hour break (flexible time: 5:00 AM - 10:00 PM, no core time)
*Start and end times are determined by the employee. However, start and end times may change due to work circumstances.
Remote work is permitted. However, we encourage employees to work in the office 2-3 days a week.
Application Requirements: Required (MUST)
・Interest in policy and social issues and strong learning and creative thinking
・Ability to negotiate and coordinate with various stakeholders (experience in politics, government administration, public relations, corporate sales, alliances, etc.)
Application Requirements: Desired (WANT)
・Work experience in politics (e.g., legislator/secretary) or government administration (e.g., civil servant), or experience in a corporate government relations department or similar field
・Ability to communicate a message to society and gain support
・Experience and skills in public relations, marketing, creative/design, etc.
・English proficiency sufficient to participate independently in meetings and conduct business negotiations in English
6 million to 12 million yen, determined based on skills and experience
- Commuting allowance (Maximum of 50,000 yen per month)
- Free drinks (use of WeWork facilities)
Available (Health Insurance, Employees' Pension, Workers' Accident Compensation Insurance, Employment Insurance)
Holidays: Saturdays, Sundays, public holidays, New Year's holidays, summer holidays. However, the above holidays may be changed due to business circumstances.
