Maintaining relations between the United States and Japan
As part of the U.S. government, we negotiate and communicate with the Japanese government, coordinate and supervise political, economic and other activities, and conduct public relations and cultural activities to promote understanding of the United States. We also issue visas necessary for travel, disseminate information, and provide consular services to American citizens.

Full-time - 40 hours per week
Monday through Friday, 8:30 – 17:30, with 1 hour lunch break.

【Qualifications】
For the experience and education requirements applicants must meet either option 1 or option 2.

Option 1:
Experience: At least three years of responsible work in building operations and/or building maintenance is required.
Education: At least two years of post-high school, full-time study at vocational school in engineering, plumbing, or electrical or equivalent.

Option 2:
Experience: At least five years of responsible work in building operations and/or building maintenance is required.
Education: Completion of high school or equivalent to high school.

【Language】
Good Working Knowledge of English and Fluent Japanese required.

【Job Knowledge】
Must have a thorough understanding of building maintenance and systems.
Must be familiar with Japanese government customs, safety and relevant laws and procedures.

【Skills And Abilities】
Must be well organized and responsible. Must have good ability with finance, budgets and numbers. Must be proficient in computer and database operation. Must be able to operate independently. Must be able to plan ahead and budget time and resources effectively.

JPY ¥5,813,721 /Per Year
The U.S. Mission does not withhold Japanese tax. Locally Employed Staff are responsible for filing income tax in accordance with Japanese Government law and regulations

・Employment Insurance (Koyou Hoken) and Workers’ Accident Compensation Insurance (Rousai Hoken) coverage is provided.
・The Mission does not provide Employee Pension Insurance (Kousei Nenkin) or Health Insurance (Kenkou Hoken), but provides coverage for National Pension Fund (Kokumin Nenkin Kikin).
・Severance pay is provided after one year of service and if all other criteria are met.

Embassy/Consulates are closed on most American and Japanese holidays.
13 days each of Annual and Sick Leave is granted per year.
Family Leave up to 40 hours per year

Permanent (Probationary period is six months)
Retirement age is 70.
