Building Engineer
Under the supervision of Construction Engineer, the job holder serves as an in-house expert on facilities mechanical equipment and systems. The responsibilities include planning, designing, overseeing vendors, and implementing complex mechanical systems and equipment. The job holder will work on transitioning Mission Japan to updated (Green) mechanical technologies to increase system efficiency and reduce operating costs. Additionally, the job holder is responsible for the general maintenance and repair of the Embassy, Consulates, Chief of Mission Residence, Deputy Chief of Mission Residence, and Mitsui Housing Compound. This position requires advanced technical skills, certifications in mechanical engineering, and a proven track record in managing large-scale projects. The job holder's work directly contributes to the sustainability and operational efficiency of the organization.
The job holder is required to develop new approaches, procedures, and plans to enhance the efficiency, safety, and sustainability of facility operations.
The job holder may be required to travel frequently to various facilities and project sites. They must be available for on-call or standby duties as needed. The position may involve working in high-hazard environments and adhering to strict safety protocols.

Maintaining relations between the United States and Japan
As part of the U.S. government, we negotiate and communicate with the Japanese government, coordinate and supervise political, economic and other activities, and conduct public relations and cultural activities to promote understanding of the United States. We also issue visas necessary for travel, disseminate information, and provide consular services to American citizens.
Full-time - 40 hours per week
Monday through Friday, 8:30 – 17:30, with 1 hour lunch break.

Requirements:
All selected candidates must be able to obtain and hold a security certificate.
All selected candidates will be subject to a background investigation and a pre-employment medical exam.

Education Requirements:
A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Facilities Management.

Experience:
The job holder must have at least three years of experience in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, facilities management, or a related field.
Language:
Good Working Knowledge English and fluent Japanese （JLPT N1）are required.
Job Knowledge:
The job holder must possess extensive knowledge of building operations, mechanical systems. and sustainability initiatives. This includes expertise in Building Automation and Controls, Emergency Power Generation, Chillers. Air Handling Units, VAV systems, Portable Water Sanitary Sewage, and HVAC systems. Familiarity with local building codes, safety regulations, and industry standards is essential to ensure compliance and effective management of facilities.
Skills And Abilities:
The job holder must possess strong computer skills, including proficiency in relevant software for project management and technical documentation. They should be able to read and interpret blueprints accurately. Excellent teamwork and leadership skills are essential, as the job holder will manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet tight deadlines. The ability to communicate effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders is also crucial.
JPY ¥12,024,804 /Per Year
The U.S. Mission does not withhold Japanese tax. Locally Employed Staff are responsible for filing income tax in accordance with Japanese Government law and regulations

13 days each of Annual and Sick Leave is granted per year.
