To support the efforts of the Chemical Division with current uses of packaging materials and systems as well as developing, testing and implementing new and innovative materials and systems. The incumbent will be required review and develop optimal specifications for packaging materials and safe packages that meet all regulatory and quality requirements in the most cost effective and customer-appealing manner and in using packaging as a competitive advantage in new product introduction and in product line extension.
Essential Job Functions and Accountabilities:
* Independently manages projects associated with packaging improvements, yet also effectively works on a team as needed to ensure multi-faceted projects are effectively managed.
* Ensure accurate packaging specification, bills-of-materials, packaging instruction documentation and other documentation to ensure proper packaging of products and procurement of packaging components.
* Assist the production areas in resolving problems associated with packaging components, supplies, equipment and procedures..
* Assist and support the development of package design and specifications for new products and product line extensions.
* Investigate customer problems/complaints concerning package performance, and determine if corrective measures need to be taken to ensure packaging for the product remains safe, cost-effective, compliant to regulatory requirements, and utilizes the latest technological developments where applicable.
* Provide ideas and recommendations for improvements in package performance, efficiency, and cost savings.
* Interface with Customer Service, Sales Representatives, and Chemical Specialists on related packaging inquiries as necessary.
* Apply Lean and continuous improvement techniques to meet customers’ packaging needs.
* Partner with colleagues across the various sites within Global Chemicals as well as other ThermoFisher Scientific businesses to drive results.
* Train and coach Process Owners, Champions and project teams.
* Study new industry trends and developments and apply to future development approaches and strategies.
* Aggressively work to make Lean and PPI self-sustaining.
* Participate as needed in specific projects across the business unit in support of the division’s strategic plan.
* Identify best practices both within and outside of Thermo Fisher that can be used to accelerate the development in quality and innovation with respect to packaging.
* Must maintain high ethical standards to support a professional business code of conduct
Minimum Qualifications and Requirements:
* BS degree in Engineering preferably in Packaging.
* Chemical background preferred.
* Basic understanding of packaging function and performance is necessary.
* Good overall knowledge of packaging test methods.
* Knowledge of Code of Federal Regulations 49 a plus.
* A minimum of three years based on a combination of education, experience, and/or licensure/certification.
* PC/ Computer Literacy.
* Ability read and understand CAD drawings for approval
* Good attention to detail.
* Ability to manage numerous tasks/projects.
* Good communication and leadership skills.
* Be willing to travel
* Have excellent interpersonal, time management, decision-making and conflict management skills
